When should I file for renewal?
No later than the last day of validity, but the police take up to 90 days — file 2–3 months ahead. If filed on time, you stay legally until the decision.
Do years under temporary protection count?
No — time under dočasné útočisko does not count towards the 5 years for permanent residence. If you plan to stay, consider switching to prechodný pobyt early.
What is needed for citizenship?
8 years of continuous permanent residence, Slovak language exam, clean record and paid taxes. Spouses of citizens and some categories have shorter terms.
